For the concept, I illustrated squash blossoms. Shannon and I discussed plants that make their own way, and the intricate but bold growth of vines. Squash will pop up all over Los Angeles, it tends to find it’s own way to grow even in sidewalks.

This delicate but resilient energy is what this book really draws on and so we decided to run with that.
